This is such an amazing nursery -- really the best in the DC area! The plant selection is so much wider and more interesting than what you'd find at a Lowes or Home Depot, or even some other more specialized nurseries nearby. All of the stock is really lovely and reasonably priced.

Also, the staff are really helpful and courteous -- they even stayed late on our most recent trip to walk my wife and I through some options for our yard and planting location. We'll definitely keep coming back!

I typically don’t leave reviews, but the service here today was so egregiously bad I couldn’t get to google fast enough.

I’ve had a houseplant I received as a gift from one of those online shops that ships across the country. It’s in a self-watering pot. It’s been unhappy and sick almost since I got it so I wanted to consult with a local garden shop to see what might be wrong and maybe pick up a different pot, or a fertilizer, or something depending on what the garden expert said. When I lived in Denver, that’s what the local nursery & garden shop specialized in, and as a result I spent a lot of my money with them.

No one to be found when I arrive. A young woman posted out front summoned her manager, who emerged from the back without any kind of greeting or demeanor like he wanted to help, to hear my explanation: “this plant is sick and not sure what’s wrong, and I was wondering whether you might be able to help.” He doesn’t look at the plant itself, just immediately tells me brusquely that my pot has no drainage — which I know already and was hoping to get one with some holes in the bottom. But I’m pretty sure that isn’t the issue with the plant. Then he finally looks at the leaves, picks at them, and says, “why are they white they’re not supposed to look like that.” …? Again, I know that. I already said it’s sick. That’s why I’m here. He looks at the soil. “Maybe if you’d water it once in awhile.”

It had been overwatered, I told him, so I wanted to let it dry for a moment. Literally the topsoil finally dried yesterday. He opens the reservoir and again says with a condescending tone, “yeah water it. I’ve never seen one of these pots” and at this point I’ve grown tired of trying to explain. Because he’s clearly not listening and uninterested in helping. If you don’t do little houseplant consults, fine, say that in the beginning but there’s absolutely no reason to be a jerk about someone trying to get help with a parlor palm. I had some fertilizer I’d brought to the register, planning to buy for other plants at home, and left it on the counter saying “thanks VERY much for your help” and left. Tried to support a local business, was super willing! Would’ve been super loyal! Instead you get a one star review for some of the worst service I’ve ever received. I hope this shop has the winter and holiday season it deserves.
