If I could give negative stars I would. This company should not be in business. They took our money and ran and now we have to pursue legal measures. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I don't even understand how they have been in business this long. They only have excuses while they take your money. Looking at other reviews, I think they just take a few grand from their clients knowing it's too small of an amount to pursue. I am out of principle, pursuing. To others who were ripped off by this company, contact me if you want to get together for a legal case.

Sadly, it appears you are not the only one.

I entered into a services agreement with Land Art on January 30, 2024. Before signing the agreement, I spoke at length with Mr. Baker given the time sensitive nature of this project and received the following statement in writing to alleviate my concerns regarding the open-ended deliverable schedule: “should be about a 1 to 2 month project with our current work load considered.” Our agreement was executed the same day as receiving his assurances and a retainer of $3175.00 was sent to Land Art. In the more than 6 months since, I have yet to receive any deliverables (even in draft form) and the company simply refuses to provide any reasonable expectation for completion.

Further, Land Art does not respond to any emails or voicemails once you are under contract. I have sent over a dozen emails and left a comparable number of voicemails requesting an update on the project. As other reviewers have pointed out, the only chance you have at getting Mr. Baker to answer the phone is to call from an unknown phone number. On the few occasions that I was able to reach Mr. Baker, my requests for status were met with a recycled list of excuses – ranging from turnover to illness to acts of God to technical problems. When his excuses simply aren’t believable any longer, Mr. Baker claims that all customers are serviced on “first come-first serve basis” and, coincidentally, a project from 3 years ago requires immediate revisions moving it to the front of the queue. This tactic was used at least 3 times during our engagement and is completely disingenuous.

While Land Art’s performance was clearly disappointing, I repeatedly found myself trying to be empathetic with Mr. Baker (given his stated hardships) and remained hopeful that we would find value in the deliverables once completed, as he would promise to do whatever it takes to get the contract back on track. In retrospect, his assurances were only offered to get me off of the call he unsuspectingly answered, and not surprisingly, every promised delivery date came and went with no communication that the deadline would be missed yet again or an explanation of when we could expect the deliverable. After months of trying to resolve these issues, I formally cancelled of our contract in early August 2024 pursuant to the relevant sections of our agreement.

In the months since, we have yet to receive so much as an acknowledgement of cancellation or a response to any of our voicemails and emails requesting the same. Most concerning, we have not received an accounting of project expenditures nor payment for the balance of our retainer, as also required under under our agreement.

Any reasonable professional would apologize for our experience prompting the cancellation (irrespective of fault) and, at the very least, provide prompt guidance for the settlement of our account to avoid further dispute. In this case, Mr. Baker has done neither and refuse to operate in good faith with the respect to the to return our retainer with reasonable urgency, as required under Florida statute.

My unfortunate advice to prospective customers is to avoid this vendor at all costs. There are plenty of reputable vendors that will adhere to basic professionalism standards that are usual, customary and reasonable for this industry and view the customer as an integral part of the design process. Sadly, neither is true of Land Art.

Finally, judging from the misplaced excuses Mr. Baker has offered in his responses to similar reviews on this platform, I reject the notion that I requested any special treatment or that my project simply hadn’t made it to the top of the schedule yet. I only requested Land Art operate professionally, communicate periodically and provide a reasonable expectation for completion (timeline), which they repeatedly refused to provide. Further, there is simply no lawful reason that a legitimate business would not promptly return a retainer payment after completing essentially zero work and having their contract cancelled by the customer for cause.

It appears that we received the wrong end of this deal.

There were red flags in the beginning. We had to pay $600 upfront just to meet, regardless of the decision to hire them. The fee is in addition to the contracted price if hired. It seemed like a scam and yet we made the mistake of moving forward given our need for a quick turnaround. Please note that the contract does not guarantee a timeline. They knew that we needed a turnaround of 8 weeks prior to meeting and stated that this would not be an issue. Five months later we finally received the documents needed for construction which led to increased costs as this delayed the submission required for construction and new code was implemented by the county.

The professionalism with this company is very lacking. The responsiveness was absent. The only method of contact is via email and the response rate for that was at least 2 – 3 weeks from the sent email. They will not answer nor return your calls unless you call from a new number each time. They take it personally when you ask for status updates and WILL delay your project as they see fit. We were NEVER late with any payment.

I wish that we knew more about this company prior to making the decision to hire them. This was the WORST experience that we’ve ever had with a business. We would have paid double what they charged for a better experience and outcome. What a waste. Definitely not worth the headache. If we could give negative stars, we would. I hope that this post gives pause to the next victim. I’m afraid that the other reviews may have been swayed, falsified, or are friends of the owner. If you choose to go forward with this company, you can’t say that you weren’t forewarned. Good luck with your search.

P.S. If anyone needs the proof of payment, emails, and phone records associated with Land Art's response, I'll be more than happy to share. THIS STOPS HERE!

My husband and I had just purchased a 90 year old Spanish style home in Thornton Park. The backyard was tiny and the neighbors’ homes were very close. Randall not only designed a pool, he designed our private oasis! Our new resort style area included a pool with sun deck, hot tub, custom iron lanterns, palm trees with up lighting, a free standing wood/gas stucco fireplace, a cedar pergola with flowering vines, surrounded by stucco privacy walls accented with coquina stone, mixed with native plants, Birds of Paradise, lush Mast trees, and wonderful citrus trees!! I have to say we were AMAZED at the outcome!! Randall Baker is so creative, attentive, and responsive. We’re still blown away at how our postage stamp backyard became our private resort! Highly recommend Land Art Landscape Architecture!
