I so appreciate local farms, and their dedication to growing food for the community. Living in the midwest doesn't necessarily mean having access to locally-grown food -- so much of the land is taken up by industrial crops. I love PEF's energy, their drive to succeed in the current market by experimenting with new products and methods of delivery (Choice CSA!), and that they work hard to get their produce in the hands of local restaurants and groceries. And they grow delicious food!!

I have been a customer with PrairiErth since their very first Downtown Bloomington Farmers' Market. I've also had the privilege to work on the farm. I am amazed by how they are truly 'being the change' that they want to see in the world. They are tireless supporters of other farmers, farmers' markets, and cooperative grocery stores. They not only provide the community with amazing veggies, but they are a source of knowledge about food systems and encourage other community members to get involved in working towards a world where food, and those that work so hard to produce it are valued appropriately.

The PrairErth farmers are top notch! They run an amazing farm, growing first-rate produce for their community. But, beyond that they are pillars of the farming community—facilitating collaboration with other farmers, innovating the profession, leading by example and sharing their experiences with others. Hans, Katie, and their team make everyone feel welcome and are always happy to answer questions about any item, how to prepare the veggies, or anything about their farming practices. We were so happy with what we found at the farmers’ market that we are now longtime CSA members.

I had the pleasure assisting with the harvest. A few of my Hispanic friends and I were needed to remove weeds and chaff griming with tubers such as parsnips, carrots, and other root crop. The work was muddy, hot and cold, but timed perfectly. I was very compensated and would do it again in a heart beat. I did however discover the water well to be contaminated from swine or cattle.
