I hired Quality Sod for a small ($4K) commercial job in Tampa. The sales person (Ken) was extremely knowledgable and super friendly. He ask for some extra dollars to pay for what ended up being some tougher ground to dig through. I quickly approved without discussion. The mulch, hedge plants came and looked great, but the sprinkler work was a total mess. Their sprinkler specialist (Juan) added a drip line on a zone that shouldn't have drip lines so 1/2 the brand new viburnums (80) died and the brand new sports court I just installed was flooding every Monday, Thursday and Saturday when the sprinklers ran. I asked Ken to come and get the sprinklers right, which never happened. Apparently he spoke to the owner who (3rd person) told him that he was not going to make it right. I've had to hire 2 more sprinkler companies to repair what was done wrong and still have to replace the 40 hedge plants that drowned. Unfortunate! Use someone else if you care about having a quality job.

Quality Sod did a great job on my yard. They were responsive and always answered all my calls/texts throughout the entire process. Their pricing was competitive and their customer service was great. They ended up grading, laying sod, and landscaping my yard; it looks fantastic finally. My friend who works for a home builder recommended them because they grade/sod/landscape his companies new properties. He definitely gave me a good contact in the end. Attached are some pictures to show their work.

John Neal: I read your response and this clearly shows how much you know about it. The installation happened in May 2022 and you are saying it's been over a year. By June end/early July, we raised our initial concern, which is like a month after the SOD installation. If you want me to attach the paperwork and show all the communications, I sure can and this will show what I am talking about. Furthermore, I had 2 reputable lawncare specialists review my lawn and they both came to the conclusion that the installation of the sod quality was bad that caused the problem. Additionally, one would expect the installers to have the courtesy to knock on the door or leave a 'CARE INSTRUCTION' if that is what you are talking about lawncare. If you can prove me that one of these happened, I am ready to withdraw my statement about you and your firm.
I really feel disappointed that you are still trying to defend your case rather than come to an amicable solution.

Paid $7000 to sod my backyard. Hired PPL, supposedly their partners, to maintain the sod. Two years later my lawn was a mess and I have photos to show the declining transgression. They had every excuse in the books: water, wrong grass, too much shade, ,,,,I threw away $7000 plus another $2000 for a crappy lawn. I fired them all.

I goofed by only looking at the 4.5 star review score on Google (which is a 3.8 now). Turns out that, as I write this, they only have 1 star on the Better Business Bureau page and a D rating, only 2 stars on Angi, and 1.6 stars on Yelp. To save you some time, I’ve included a few screenshots of others’ reviews below. I’ll throw in an abbreviated version of my story, too. It’s so absurd, I’ve had to chop it down by a thousand words to not exceed Google’s character limit.

I got a quote from Robert/QS for re-sodding the front and side of the lawn, which died during the drought last spring. It was $1,430 for 1,300 square feet.

Once done, I found the quality of much of the sod itself to be unacceptable. Most of it was thin and patchy, and a bunch was completely dried out and appeared to be completely dead.

I also found the installation work to be unacceptable. The edges of many sod pieces were overlapping, sometimes by 3-4 inches, leaving some edges covered up and others not in contact with the ground. Numerous other pieces had large gaps, some up to 3 inches, between them. The pieces appeared to have been thrown down in a hurry and not moved around and fit together. In fact, the crew had apparently been in such a hurry that they actually threw pieces down on top of some of the white flags I used to mark the irrigation sprinkler heads and covered them up. There was also a shallowly-buried internet cable marked up with orange flags, which they apparently ripped out of the ground. It wasn’t cut - it was gone - along with the internet.

Robert denied that the cable had been hit (wrong!) and also said he would get everything “tightened up” and taken care of. However, after waiting a week and hearing nothing from him, nothing was ever tightened up. So, I called the company and spoke with John, who immediately came off as a dismissive jerk. Regardless, John said he’d go look at the lawn himself and make sure everything got taken care of. He never went, though, and I didn’t hear back from him at all for another 9 days.

After nothing was done for over a week and half, I got tired of waiting to hear back from them/for them to fix it. So, I bought several bags of topsoil, filled in all of the larger gaps with a hand spade, and fixed all of the visible overlaps. That took 2.5 hours of my time - and a lot of work. So, there were black stripes of topsoil all over the place where I’d filled things in.

When John FINALLY got back to me, almost 3 weeks after the install, he told me that he'd been to the house and that everything looked fine. He didn’t mention anything about the numerous black stripes of topsoil, though. So, I started asking questions about what he saw/didn’t see and then he admitted that he hadn’t gone by and that he’d only looked at some pictures that Robert took a week earlier. He said he “misspoke” about going himself. Yeah, right.

John then tried some kind of weird reverse-guilt thing, saying I was expecting perfection and that’s my problem. He said the sod business is a tough business and a bunch of other stuff that made no difference whatsoever. The fact is, they put down a bunch of low-quality sod and did a terrible job on the install. But, John just denied that they’d done poor work and said the lawn would “grow in” even though he’d admittedly never gone by to see it.

I was very unhappy with his attitude and protested. After some arguing, he eventually offered to reduce the bill from $1430 to $1200. I said make it $1000 and I’d send a check, then he threatened to put a lien on my property if I didn’t pay $1,200. He said, “It’s easy and I’ve done it a hundred times.” So, per his own words, he’s had “a hundred” customers that didn’t want to pay. Great guy. Great company…

FYI: I saved every text and over 100 before and after time-stamped photos and videos of their poor-quality sod and installation work – just in case anyone wants to dispute the facts in this review.

Very good company. Robert the sales rep has a great personality with excellent knowledge of the industry and gave us a good honest price. The workers worked hard and did exactly what we wanted in cutting and raking the old sod, adding some top soil and laying the sod. The sod looks great a month and a half later.

Please Do NOT use this company. I did not have the option because it was the company my new house builder chose. However, their work skills are absolutely horrible, and the sod was full of weeds. I literally could not walk in the yard and my children couldn’t play without twisting their ankles. Ultimately, I hired a new company (the day of closing) to remove that sod and replace it with a much better quality. The new company took their time (two days) (Not 2 hrs) and ensured the sod was properly installed. In addition, they (Quality Sod) installed sod on top of trash i.e. bottles and cans that were visible while walking around. So, you can see the pictures yourself and notice rush/poor job that was done. So, stay away from this company if you want to have your sod needs done right.

Like the name says, They do deliver "quality sod". Chinch bugs and gophers destroyed my lawn. Now it looks like it did 2 years ago. Probably even better...and it was just laid. This wasn't the last pallet of half dead garbage grass. St. Augustine Pallets they brought looked amazing. Cant wait for them to take root. Thanks guys. Hopefully I wont need to re-sod for. Long while but if I do I know who to call.
