Great deli and ice cream always but you may not know that you can sometimes buy fruit crates from them during certain times of the year. Reasonably priced and perfect for diy projects. My up-cycled fruit crates from shady crest are being used in a wedding decor arrangement

Our bi-yearly trip and, of course, our first stop in Arthur is Shady Credt Amish Grocery store, deli, ice cream shop, and gift store.
No kidding, it started out as a little store & has grown dramatically over the years, which is great for the owners, tourists & community. Mind you, we stop for one major reason first. It's the fried pies people. If you've never had an Amish fried pie, you are truly missing out on the best little hand-held pie ever. They are kinda like the old old hostess pies only so much better. The flavors are so one of a kind. Let me see if I can do justice here. Lemon, cherry, apple, black Raspberry, peach, strawberry, pumpkin, and yes, I know I'm missing some ha. Anyways, if you don't get to Shady Crest first thing, guess what? They sell out, literally every time they are only available Friday & Saturday.
Now there's your answer to why we go there first when we get to Arthur. Mind you, there is a method to my madness, lol.
It's not the only thing we buy it depends on the pastries for the day and what products you might like to try. Like jams, rare cookies, pot pies, butter, so much to choose from that you don't find in any regular grocery store. Get a sandwich or ice cream or soda fountain drink. See what mean, it's a great locally-owned grocery store. For tourists, you'll definitely see horse & buggies in the parking lot, too. Be mindful, never ever take pictures of the Amish people in case you don't know.

My mom and I really enjoyed our shopping experience at Shady Crest Farm Market. It was a cold, blustery wind type of day so we didn't linger outside for very long. We took our time looking at all the decoration items that they have near the entrance of the market. The fall decorations were 10% off which was nice. They offer a lot of locally made items in their store such as salsas, jams and many other items. They have a deli that was pretty busy when we were there. We had just ate so we didn't walk over to the deli area. They have seating available on the first floor and on the second floor. We can't wait to go back and have lunch there one day. The store was clean and they have public restrooms.

Skylights and solar powered LEDs light make this place bright and cheerful. There are plenty of food items, from raw ingredients to processed, ready to eat. You can cook food from scratch or do some canning. There's also a place to sit and eat on a 2nd floor area.

We drive 2 1/2 hrs to get our cheese and deli meats here, along with some flour, sugar and baking things. They have a great sandwich/salad counter also.
