Apparently this is so called warranty work on a 6 month old boat. Now I’m being told it needs manager approval to be done again oh wait…. How about you never did it to begin with while we missed out on two weeks of boating for absolutely nothing.

My wife and I purchased a center console boat this past July. The boat was used and Marine Max had done a great job cleaning it up and making it sale ready. Our sales person Craig was great. Laid back, no pressure, and got done what needed to be done to bring the deal together. If anything I pushed the sales process along harder than he did. When it came time to close, the paperwork was ready and Craig even made after hours arrangements to get the closing documents signed when my wife and I were able to come up.

After the sale there were several items that needed attention by maintenance. These were not surprises and we all knew when we took delivery of the boat. Craig worked with the service side to get those items done. Scott the service manager was also easy to work with and more than accommodating. Some of the items became bigger and more expensive than anyone expected. No pushback from Marine Max. It was handled quickly and done the first time.

It was clear that the dealership was a bit understaffed at the time that we purchased our boat. Some of that may have been staff vacation and timing and some may have been staff shifting locations. As a business owner and consumer we are in an economy where most business are thinner than they would like to be on staff. I think it’s important to keep cool and roll with what needs to happen. Regardless of the staff situation the team at Marine Max worked hard to make everything smooth and get the sale done and the service complete.

Visited looking for a new boat. Wasn't permitted to enter showroom without a sales person in tow. Boat I was shown was dirty and not ready for sale. When I asked if they had a ships store I was told it was in a different building and was never offered to be shown or told where. Left after seeing only one not ready for sale boat. Personally I'd like to see a more open and friendly environment much like that of the old Treasure Cove Marine. Not a reception desk and here's your sales man. Not what I would have expected from a Marine Max location.

6/15/2018 Update: Service Department would be 4 Stars - While leaving West Harbor to start our vacation I started to hear a knocking noise from my engine. Not wanting to enter the lake with a possible problem we decided to swing in to Marine Max and see if someone would be willing to listen to see if they could determine the problem. Chris one of the techs came out and took a short ride with us and thought he knew the problem but he had another mechanic listen and they determined I had a bad exhaust flapper and that we could continue with our vacation and have it attended to when we return home. I very much appreciated them taking the time while being busy to help. This saved my vacation and is why I would rate them higher. If I knew more about the service department I might rate even higher.

The sale floor is still very closed. I looked at a brokerage boat I saw on the web the next day as I'm still looking to move up and again felt as if the sales person really didn't want to take the time. I was shown one boat (again not clean) and they never offered any additional help. I asked about a larger boat they had for sale and was told it was sold. I then asked about another boat they had listed and was told it wasnt on site. The sales person never offered to take my name and number or help me make arrangements to see it. Just showed me out the door. Amazing. I'm done shopping Marine Max. I'll find my boat elsewhere. Maybe if you're looking for a new boat they'll give you the time of day.

We have been dealing with M-Max of Port Clinton for over 20 years and have always found them informative, knowledgeable, friendly and honest. Craig Graham and Dan Russell are awesome and just helped us purchase our new boat. And Thad King in parts has always come through for me. Cant go wrong in dealing with these three guys!

I bought my 2003 Sea Ray on consignment there and have serviced it there the past 4 years. I have worked with Ric Fulton, Tom Jagucki, and Steven Noft and they have all been extremely helpful. Best place for sales and service on the shores of Lake Erie!

Service from marine max is minimal at best...
As a local we were told marine max doesnt work on 20 year old machines.
(Take in mind this is a boat they have attempted to broker in the past. Its a very clean and well kept example)

This was promptly followed by, "but we would be willing to take a look at it over the winter in your storage facility"

Seams off that a dealer isnt willing to schedule a technician till its convenient for them...

Almost 3 years after our purchase of a SeaRay from Marinemax, there is not many people in this world who show true qualities of both professionalism and empathy like Jon Kopija. As a long time boater and business owner, you will have a hard time finding a better person who has your best interest in mind then Jon.
