My 2017 Honda BF50D was persistently stalling at idle and overheating last summer. When I found out that Outlaw Marine had become Honda dealer, I decided to take my boat to them for service, rather than take it to the Sandusky dealer where I bought it. It turned out that the outboard had been incorrectly installed, with the idle rpm set about 50% too high, due to a mismatch between the old tachometer and the new engine. This caused the low speed fuel pump to run out of spec, retarding fuel delivery at idle and prematurely wearing out the pump, .

Kudos to Caleb at Outlaw Marine for figuring out this complex set of problems over a period of weeks, replacing the pump, fixing the idle speed and returning the engine specifications to “like new” running conditions.

Caleb was smart, resourceful and persistent - rare qualities in my experience. Many thanks to Outlaw Marine for getting me back on the water with a safe reliable engine again.

P. S. I just returned from a 22-day cruise on the Ohio River, from Marietta to Henderson, IN. - 665 miles. Thanks to Caleb and Outlaw Marine, the Honda 50 worked perfectly throughout.

Extremely helpful! Had a flat tire and leak in one of my boat trailers wheels. Man that helped us was the owner, and he quickly addressed the problem, and had the wheel replaced and our boat trailer working good as new in no time. Extremely professional and awfully accommodating.

Very disappointed with the service. My boat broke down on a Saturday and contacted them and they told me they would look at it the following Tuesday or Wednesday if I dropped it off that day. Three and a half weeks later, they finally diagnosed and replaced the starter. I picked my boat up and took it straight to the water and my batteries were beyond dead. My onboard smart charger showed them fully charged. They sat at their shop dead for three and a half weeks without being charged and they gave the boat back to me knowing this and said nothing. The batteries were less than two months old and are probably ruined. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN FOR ANYTHING and I recommend no one else does as well.If they would have just been honest with me about the time frame like other shops I called I wouldn’t be so upset. Now I have to replace brand new batteries
Update: the owner, Ryan, called me and apologized and promised to make it right. I appreciate the integrity, thanks Ryan!

Does not know what he is doing or working on!!!! Does not perform quality work. Will not return phone calls.
Crank taken to him, said it would take 5 days and took 3 weeks for completion. Ruined the crank when turning/grinding the crankshaft. Requested parts 5 weeks ago and still waiting.
Will not refund money when aware he ruined crank.

Reply to Ryan: Im not sure where your information is coming from, I didn’t state that it came from a 1950’s/60’s tractor. I understand the process takes time and labor. You should understand that since it was ruined, I have to spend more money on a new shaft. When received back from you, I checked it before applying to machine and my measures showed it was turned wrong, it was 0.004 under what you stated it was. With that knowledge I had another professional check your work and it was wrong/ruined, they miced it at almost 0.005 under what is should be.
You have stated that you pride yourself in honest and reliable repairs. Where is your honesty in taking responsibility for ruining my crankshaft?

I called to get a price on sensers for my outdrive he wanted 127.00 for the pair. I found them on the internet for 26.00. Then I asked him how much he would charge to rebuild my outdrive. He quoted me 2000+. I bought a complete rebuild kit and an alternator points and condenser distributor cap rotor button spark plugs wired. And spark plugs for 172.00. I purchased them from go2marine. And I did it all in a day myself. You do the math. I thought there were laws to protect the consumer against price gouging.

I recently purchased a used Pontoon boat with an I/O motor. As you learn when you buy a used boat, you are going to need maintenance. It is very hard to find people you trust to do the work. It is also difficult to find someone to work on an I/O motor. I can’t say enough wonderful things about a couple of Pier 36’s boat mechanics (Caleb and Daniel). I could tell the minute I met Caleb that he knew what he was doing and had lots of experience. I needed my bellows replaced and he took the time to make sure everything was fine with my boat after the work was finished and we put it back in the lake. He even called me a couple days after he did the work to make sure everything was okay (great customer service in my opinion).

Caleb and Daniel also replaced my ignition switch because the starter was trying to engage when I switched from forward to reverse which caused a terrible grinding noice. Caleb also adjusted some cables and now my shifter lever is smoother than ever. I am very pleased with the service I have received and I highly recommend Pier 36.

Just had a great experience with the service department at Pier 36. I have an older boat powered by an OMC sterndrive that some outfits wouldn't have even worked on, but service manager Jim and marine tech Caleb tag-teamed the job and even facing with some long waits for parts to arrive, which is common these days and out of their control, they got me on the water and running fine. Highly recommend these folks.
