If I could give additional 🌟 I gladly would!!

I was fortunate to have been chosen to be part of the most recent Master Gardener Volunteer (MGV) class. What an amazing experience!

As a result of Covid the lectures are available online and I learned so much. I downloaded the lectures and the slides and still refer to them. We met on Thursday mornings and Mark Tancig was our teacher. The classroom portion was from September until December and very involved. After one of the topics, I felt so discouraged that I called him in tears. He was so patient and kind and "talked me down". He is so upbeat and I wonder how his face doesn't hurt from all of the smiling.

Mark was incredible at making something as "challenging" as plant taxonomy interesting. His personality is perfect for dealing with people who have questions for him about any aspect of plants great and small.

I also want to give shout outs to the other people who are involved in the classroom lessons: Rachel, Molly and Trevor. They all know so much and the first to admit that they don't know everything and are always learning something new.

As part of the MGV program we are required to put in Volunteer Hours. There are so many different opportunities, from working in different gardens, to writing articles for the newspaper, to working in the office answering questions received (emails, telephone calls, and in-person), to Invasive Plant Removal and so many more!

And everyone I have met is very nice, enthusiastic and helpful to newbies. It's obvious that they really enjoy what they do and I have caught their enthusiasm.

If you've read this far you probably know that I am so keen about the MGV program and urge you to visit the Extension office and talk to someone about becoming a MGV.
It's a great way to learn new things, to meet and become friends with shoulder people who share your interests, and most importantly provide a service to the people of Tallahassee and Leon County.

The deadline for submitting an application for the next class is July so get to the Extension Office, find out about the MGV program and apply. You won't be sorry!!!
